Norris Edges Out Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has beaten his teammate at each of the past five grands prix.
Lando Norris narrowly beat fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the championship lead from Piastri by just one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Before then, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before the sprint shootout due at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in realistic title contention, lying 36 points Norris, finished in 17th place as his team followed a alternative strategy.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to have an incident, though minor, when he rotated at corner four soon after starting.
Tsunoda slid over the track edges before rotating through the gravel trap, and was lucky to escape with just a light touch of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the conclusion of the practice, rotating twice through the high-speed Mergulho turn leading to the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in 19th place, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, over half a second off Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
