Writing on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who starred in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, mentioned he just recently felt prepared to post publicly about his personal sorrow.

In a separate tribute, acclaimed director Martin Scorsese paid homage to Reiner, whom he initially encountered in the 1970s.

"Immediately, I loved hanging out with Rob. We had a instant connection for each other. He was hilarious and sometimes sharply witty, but he was never the kind of guy who would command the room," Scorsese wrote.

Scorsese highlighted Reiner's cameo appearance in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, playing the father of the protagonist.
