Edwards and Gary O'Neil represent the early names in the frame to succeed Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Pereira was sacked on Sunday after the squad's ten-game without a victory beginning to the Premier League campaign.

Furthermore both candidates - both of who have historic links to the team - are among the options to be evaluated by the club ownership.

Edwards is presently at another club, which would pose a possible hurdle to his hiring at Molineux.

However the ex- Luton Town head coach - who played over a century of games for the club during his playing career - is said to be a strong contender for the position.

The mid-career manager is said to have backing from the Wolves directors as they begin the process of hiring a new manager.

Gary O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected candidate, even though he would be a surprising choice considering he was released by Wolves in the previous winter.

The former West Ham player is currently unemployed which means the club would not be required to provide any buyout fee.
